Policy Book Review Advisories

Yuma School District One operates according to policies established by the Board and regulations developed by the Superintendent. The Board, which represents the state and local community, adopts policies after careful deliberation, and the school administration implements them through specific regulations and procedures. The Board and administration then appraise the effects of its policies and procedures and makes revisions as necessary.

Page 1 of the Introduction to District One’s Governing Board Policy manual.

Governing Board Policies BG and BGC stipulate, “changes in needs, conditions, purposes, and objectives may require revisions, deletions, and additions to the policies of the present and future boards.” And that the Superintendent is authorized to seek consulting services to support policy review. The Arizona School Boards Association provides these services to District One.

Generally, the role of a Board is to set policy, and the role of the administration is to execute it. District One’s Governing Board Policy Manual includes policies, regulations, and exhibits.

Policies establish the framework of what is done.
Policies are principles adopted by the Board that describe what the Governing Board expects and requires. Once created, they continue in perpetuity as written until revised or rescinded.

Regulations describe how policies are implemented.
Regulations are the detailed directions developed by the administration to put policy into practice. They tell how, by whom, where, and when things are done. Since they explain how the Superintendent intends to accomplish policy expectations and requirements, they are subject to change whenever the Superintendent alters the procedure(s).

Exhibits are informational items.
Exhibits are documents that either give or request information. Exhibits are the most volatile of the documents as they are more frequently modified to accommodate ongoing changes and needs for presenting or gathering information.

If you have any comments or suggestions, please send them to the Superintendent's office.
