Carver Honors Fallen Soldier

On November 10, and in honor of Veterans Day, students at G.W. Carver Elementary School gathered to celebrate the dedication of The Private Delgado Reading Space, funded by the 6.25 Foundation. Named for Private First Class Pedro A. Delgado and located within the Carver Library, this space will provide a flexible reading area that encourages and enhances reading.

The Private Delgado Reading Space inspired students at Carver Elementary School to enhance their knowledge about Veterans Day and the Korean War. Through research and student collaboration, six students presented facts about the Korean War, Private Delgado’s service to his country, and the importance of honoring those who have served.

By providing academic scholarships and funding library projects, the 6.25 Foundation works to honor fallen American soldiers who fought in the Korean War. PFC Delgado was a Yuma native, born on January 1, 1927. After enlisting in the United States Army, he bravely fought in the Battle of Chosin Reservoir. On December 1, 1950, PFC Delgado was killed in action. For his service, he received many distinctions, including the Purple Heart. For more information, visit the 6.25 Foundation website.
